InfoPrint Manager for Windows
Comprehensive software. Cost-effective management.
Although printing to paper remains a key form of business communication, the On Demand Business environment requires new capabilities that can reduce the need to output to paper—yet still require detailed management of the output process. Centralized management of output can provide an increased level of insight and control that can lead to cost savings and improvements in productivity. Centralized management can also enable the business to respond market conditions quickly, decisively and dynamically.
InfoPrint® Manager for Windows® provides centralized control of your output infrastructure to help drive maximum efficiency. It enables diverse types of information—from a variety of sources—to be enhanced, printed, stored, retrieved or presented on the Internet.
Improve resource management and productivity
The InfoPrint Manager GUI allows centralized management of printers and jobs through an easy-to-use interface. With an InfoPrint Manager GUI, you can remotely view, set or change the characteristics of printers and jobs, and start or stop printers as needed. You can also: Monitor the status of any job or printer; delete or move any print job; and forward-space, back-space or shut down printers—all from any workstation in your network that has the InfoPrint Manager GUI installed.
InfoPrint Notifications allow InfoPrint Manager to send timely messages about print jobs, printers or other elements of your InfoPrint system. You can receive the messages via wireless devices or e-mail, or have them pop up on a PC monitor. InfoPrint Manager can notify specific personnel when events occur, such as low toner or paper jams. Operators can be notified when a job is submitted, has started printing and is complete—or if it sits in a queue for too long.
Route and schedule documents intelligentlyInfoPrint Manager for Windows can intelligently match each print job with the right printer to maximize productivity and minimize the need for costly reprints. Jobs can be matched to destinations based on size, resolution, groups, printer models or media types. They can be queued automatically to destinations that support their requirements, such as duplexing or other document formats.
Maximize printer utilizationTo avoid bottlenecks and maximize utilization, you can leverage InfoPrint Manager to help balance your workload across multiple printers/servers. Set up your environment to:
- Cluster printers.
- Easily reroute jobs while replacing supplies or performing preventive maintenance.
- Hold jobs that fail and automatically disable printers with problems.
- Transform data and print concurrently.
- Save processed files for efficient reprinting or for printing multiple copies.
- Retry jobs automatically after network failures.
- Support multiple print datastreams.
In addition, new functions provide better discovery and recovery of errors, so your printers can be up and running faster after system problems.
Drive print and output in a variety of environmentsInfoPrint Manager for Windows gives you the flexibility to support the diverse print and output needs of your enterprise. You can receive jobs directly from workstations—including the Windows desktop and IPP clients—and from mainframe systems via Download for z/OS®, Print Services Facility for i5/OS (PSF) Direct and Distributed Print Facility (DPF). Commercial print providers using the Print on Demand feature can use the Job Ticketer browser-based client or the InfoPrint Submit Express client for job ticketing and submission.
Leverage existing investments
The datastream transforms included in the software allow InfoPrint Manager to receive jobs from a wide variety of applications and convert them to a datastream that’s appropriate for your printer. You can efficiently leverage new print capabilities without changing your existing applications, datastreams or print commands.
Job Ticketer accepts JDF job tickets, converting them into InfoPrint job tickets for submission. In addition, when combined with InfoPrint XT for Windows, InfoPrint Manager can accept LCDS and metacode data from your existing applications, convert it to InfoPrint Solutions Company Intelligent Printer Data Stream™ (InfoPrint Solutions Company IPDS™), and send it to IPDS printers.
In addition to the flexibilities that the capabilities provide, they also allow you to extend investment in existing infrastructure.
Enable scalability for evolving enterprises
As your business and output needs grow, InfoPrint Manager can grow with you. When integrated, multiple InfoPrint Manager servers can work together, sharing resources and processing tasks, to help make your system more productive and support additional printers.

LATEST ENHANCEMENTS
InfoPrint Manager for Windows
Comprehensive software. Cost-effective management.
InfoPrint® Manager for Windows® 2.2, announced and released in September 2005, provides new functionality to increase your operational flexibility and productivity—making the software more valuable in your ever-changing business. With the technology’s improved integration with other parts of the business, you can simplify operations, improve resource management and improve the productivity of your print environment.
Some of these new enhancements are:
AFP to PDFThe InfoPrint Manager AFP™ to PDF transform¹ can help improve communication and productivity, which are important elements of a complete solution. Operators can use AFP to PDF to search and view the PDF files before and after printing. They can benefit from this function when they need to validate document approval quickly before beginning production.
For example, the InfoPrint Manager AFP to PDF transform can:
- Accept AFP files as input and build corresponding robust PDF files as output.
- Provide searchable PDF output files.
- Present PDF output data that can be viewed and validated in Adobe® Acrobat® software.
- Provide improved and simplified usability, with full capability to allow advanced-user configurability.
Integration with other parts of your business is essential for a more complete solution. With the PSF enhancement, you can access data dynamically and modify it according to the business requirements. You gain more flexibility for record management, as well as improved security for data management.
PIMSGDevelopment and testing of an output application before it gets to production can be time consuming and error prone. InfoPrint Manager, with the enhancement of PIMSG, can help you easily switch applications from test environment into production with little configuration. As a result, you can increase the productivity of the development process and lower your costs.
Functional enhancements for Release 2
Print-on-Demand (POD) feature improvements
- InfoPrint Job Ticketer
- A browser-based job ticketing interface. InfoPrint Job Ticketer is a Web application that can be accessed through a Web browser from both Windows and Macintosh systems. Using Job Ticketer, you can build job tickets, store them, and submit jobs to your InfoPrint Manager destinations. Job Ticketer can accept both JDF and InfoPrint Submit job tickets and convert them for submission.
- Job Ticketer also includes a page placement facility that allows you to decide where each page should be positioned on the paper when you’re printing to a printer that supports enhanced n-up.
- InfoPrint Submit Express
The functionality of InfoPrint Submit for Windows and InfoPrint Submit for Macintosh has been consolidated in to one interface: InfoPrint Submit Express. A Java™-based application, InfoPrint Submit Express replaces InfoPrint Submit on both platforms, providing virtually the same list of features - PPML to AFP transform
The Personalized Print Markup Language (PPML) to AFP™ transform has been added to the POD Feature for InfoPrint Manager for Windows. It has also been enhanced to support IOCA FS10 as an output format. Performance enhancements have been added to reduce transform time. - Halftone Management System
The Halftone Management System has been added to the POD feature for InfoPrint Manager for Windows. The system is used to calibrate printers so they can print high quality grayscale images.
InfoPrint Transform Manager for Linux® can be set up to work with InfoPrint Manager. Environments that rely heavily on datastream transforms can stress their print servers and experience slower system performance. Transform Manager can integrate seamlessly with InfoPrint Manager to process datastream transforms on a separate system, leaving your InfoPrint Manager server to focus on job submission and management.
Datastream transforms and file format support
- Ability to convert XML to AFP and PDF
InfoPrint Manager can now accept XML files with an accompanying XSL style sheet to be converted to AFP or PDF for printing. It can also accept and transform XML-FO files, which contain both the XML and XSL information. - Support for PDF 1.5
- Continued improvements in Unicode support, with full support of UTF-16
Since print problems occasionally occur, new functionality has been added to InfoPrint Manager to get printers and jobs back into production more quickly. InfoPrint Manager now will print message pages on the media at the point of error, if that error might cause data loss. By printing the message on the media, operators can find them more easily and make the necessary corrections.
Korean language supportInfoPrint Manager has been translated into Korean.
- InfoPrint Manager for AFP to PDF transform requires purchase of PRPQ 5799-HBQ.
