The economic value of something is generally measured by comparing one object or condition to other objects or conditions. Sometimes, we think in terms of "how much" we will give up to have one desirable condition or commodity instead of another. Our "how much" meter starts clicking when we buy tangible objects such as cars, clothes and real estate or when we make less tangible choices about lifestyle, jobs and hobbies. Definitions of value vary, but the point is that we shouldn't forget the "what's in it for me?" - or my business. The print/output arena offers lots of choices right now. We describe a few of them in this newsletter.

A TransPromo scenario
In the December issue of InfoPrint Insights, you learned about TransPromo – a targeted, measurable form of direct mail that's taking off because it can add considerable value to existing customer communications.
Here's how to maximize the value add. Implement TransPromo across platforms and across channels. The right software can help you execute integrated campaigns that utilize both print and non-print channels such as Web and e-mail.
Consider this scenario:
- A statement generated by the production print center starts the communication cycle, which involves multiple customer touch points.
- The personalized URL (pURL) on the statement links to a Web page that gives your customer the option of placing an order online or with a customer service representative. The Web page mirrors the look of the transactional document to deliver a consistent experience and to reinforce messaging and brand.
- Your customer places an order, which triggers an update to the CRM database.
- The CRM update signals the distribution center to prepare a shipment.
- The packing list provides another TransPromo opportunity to include one-to-one messages and/or coupons.
- Workgroup and/or industrial printers produce the bar codes and shipping documents – all of which can be designed to mimic the campaign "look and feel" to assure consistency.
If you send customer statements, you have the data to begin TransPromo. For more information, read our white paper, which addresses both marketing and IT considerations, and visit our TransPromo solution page.

Print study can help you identify 10-40% in saving on print costs
When your manager asks you to explain high print volumes and supply costs, be prepared! "I don't know" is the wrong answer.
The free, downloadable print study monitors print statistical data on print server(s) or individual PCs in Windows environments. Since it doesn't sniff the network, it doesn't raise any red flags for IT. No software is installed and no confidential data leaves your network. The study takes just a few minutes to set up.
Gain insights into your real cost of print by learning:
- Print volume by application
- Volume by color and mono
- Annualized print costs
- Top 10% users based on cost of print
- Forecasts and print savings
When you have the facts, you can make better decisions about device consolidation, relocation and purchase – as well as user print behavior – that can translate into big savings.
Be the person with the right answers. Contact your InfoPrint rep or InfoPrint Solution Partner for details.

Right printers, right supplies
Protect your investment in InfoPrint printers and optimize their print quality by using InfoPrint-branded supplies. Our supplies are manufactured specifically for our printers using special formulations and are produced under strict quality control guidelines to assure consistency from lot to lot.
Further, InfoPrint supplies support proper operation throughout the life of the printer. The use of non-InfoPrint brand supplies in InfoPrint printers may lead to premature parts failure, downtime and maintenance charges.
And one more thing…InfoPrint Solutions Company invests in sustainability programs and activities to minimize adverse impact on the planet. It's easy to participate in our convenient, free toner cartridge return program. Most cartridge parts can be reclaimed and reused, and parts that must be discarded are disposed of responsibly. With InfoPrint supplies, you can make a pro-business, pro-environment choice.

We showcased our solutions – InfoPrint BookFlow, ADF, Optimization, Productivity, Direct Mail and TransPromo – and we demonstrated three print technologies:
Conference sessions gave customers insights and advice on AFP, digital color and sustainability. As the keynote panel emphasized, 2008 is shaping up to be an exciting year for emerging technologies and feature/function advances. InfoPrint Solutions Company is “thinking green” as we combine software, hardware and services that can deliver rapid ROI and transform business communications.

Spotlight on Valcomp Technology Inc.
Valcomp Technology is the largest distributor in Canada of InfoPrint solutions. Vice President of Sales Joe Valenti said, "As a full-service, coast-to-coast distributor, we offer more than 15 years of printing and output experience. Our resellers receive an exceptional level of support that may be unusual in the industry. We train and mentor them and often provide technical expertise during customer meetings."
Valenti sees the potential of solutions such as MAPPING Suite software. In addition to attending a training session himself, he has retained one full-time Mapping programmer. "Recently we worked with a quasi-governmental agency that used to print and fax nearly 1,000 statements a month to its clients. By adding a fax card to the AS/400 and by using MAPPING Suite, which we are helping the reseller implement, the agency has completely automated fax distribution. Print costs are reduced and more importantly, the agency has a software platform that allows information to be distributed by e-mail or Web whenever the need arises."
"We also help U.S. companies avoid the headaches and costs of trans-border deliveries," said Valenti. "Even though the hardware and software is purchased in the U.S., we'll work with the local InfoPrint rep or InfoPrint Solution Partner to implement solutions in Canada."
Valcomp combines the largest inventory in Canada with exceptional expertise and service – a value-add approach that works year after year.
